Scene setup examples

Creating scenes is relatively simple, the following step by step instructions will guide you through creating a few example scenes.

Beach Scene

In this example we create a very simple scene for beachfront property, this example assumes you have a For Sale sign object that you currently use.
Step 1: Create a folder
The folder you create will also be the name of the scene. For this example, create a folder in your inventory and name it "Beach Scene".

Step 2: Copy Items to scene folder
a) copy the object "Palm tree 1" from your Inventory: /Library/Objects/Trees, plants and grasses/Palm tree 1 to the "Beach Scene" folder you created in step 1.
b) copy the for-sale sign object to the "Beach Scene" folder you created in step 1.

Thats all there is to it! you've created your first scene. When rezzed during parcel setup both objects will be placed in the absolute center of the scene. [simple beach scene pic]

Garden Scene

Now that you see how easy it is to create scenes, we'll make one a little more advanced. In this scene we'll use coalesced objects to layout the scene.

Step 1: pick a flat 1024m2 parcel you own (or have build+planting rights on)
Step 2: rez a plant and move it to any corner of the parcel, making it equal distance from both of the two nearest parcel property lines.
select plant and drag+copy it to each of the 3 remaining corners, spacing it the same distances as you did with the first plant. for small plants placing it 1 meter from each border works and also gives plenty of room to place other plants on the scene. These are our 'corner' markers and they are used so other randomly placed plants on the parcel will be located in the same place when the scene is finally rezzed during parcel setup. Step 3: Rezzing plants: Rez trees, plants and grass on the parcel to create the final scene, be certain all plants are inside the corner marker boundaries you created in step 2. A random mixture of colors and sizes generally lays out well.

Step 4: Saving Scene Items: now you need to (in edit mode) select each individual item using shift+select and “take” it into inventory as a coalesced object. The order in which you select items is not important, but do make sure you have every item selected before you take. (you can ‘take copy’) and then rez the copy on a neighboring parcel that you own to test.

QuickTip: Easy selection of objects

To be certain you have every plant item selected do the following:

Select Client >> Rendering >> Hide Selected from the viewer. (If your viewer does not have a Client menu, use the ctrl+alt+shift+d keystroke combination to enable it)

Right click any plant, select edit

Hold down your shift key while selecting every plant object in the scene until the very last one remains.

While still holding the shift key down, right mouse click the last plant, click Take from the pie menu. This will place the coalesced trees and plants in your Inventory in the Objects folder.


Step 5: Copy this object into the folder you created in Step 1.
Step 6: Copy your For-Sale sign into this folder.

 

You could use this same procedure to place prims as well, in addition to or instead of plants. For corner markers just use square prims that are transparent (and possibly phantom).

 

If you followed the steps correctly, the resulting scene will look exactly as it did when you created it, and the for-sale sign will be placed in the absolute center of the scene.

 

More advanced scenes are possible, anything you can imagine or create can be placed on a parcel during setup. Take your time creating scenes and create them in as many shapes and sizes you want to get the results you’re looking for.
