A Scene is a collection of objects (primitives and or plants) that are rezzed on a parcel during the parcel setup process. Scenes are used to customize the look of a parcel when setup for sale or rental.

  • Scenes can contain any number of objects or plants within the prim limitations of the parcel the scene will be deployed on.
  • A scene can be assigned to one or more Landgroups.
  • There is no limit to the number of scenes you can create and use.

A simple scene for example might contain the following items:

  • A For Sale Sign

A more advanced scene might contain:

  • A For Sale sign
  • Dozens of trees, plants, grass
  • A House

Scene Size, shape
A scene can be small enough to fit on a 16m2 parcel or one that covers an entire 65536m2 simulator. A scene can be created in any shape. When deployed, the entire scene must fit within the borders of the parcel it was rezzed on. A scene can be empty.

Scene placement

Scenes are rezzed at the center of the parcels bounding box if no landing point is set, or at the X/Y position of the landing point if one is specifically set. For square or rectangular parcels the center of the bounding box will be exactly the same as the center of the parcel.

For irregular shaped [see pic] or split parcels [see pic] the center of the bounding box is calculated based on the furthest corners of the parcel. If this is true it could calculate the center of the bounding box over a neighboring parcel. In these circumstances a specific landing point must be set which will force a rezzed scene to fit completely within the borders of the target parcel.

Most parcels will be either square or rectangular, therefore simply clearing the landing point will accommodate proper placement of scenes.

Terrain slope
Scenes are rezzed at the ground height of the rezzed scene location. As explained above parcels with no landing point set would have the scene rezzed be at the absolute center of the parcels bounding box. And again, for square or rectangular parcels this would be the absolute center of the parcel.

Scenes which occupy a large portion of the parcel with primitives or trees do not lend themselves well to terrain with large variations in height. If for example the highest terrain level on a parcel was 38 meters, and the lowest were 30 meters, a scene would be rezzed somewhere in between the high and low points. It is recommended to create and use scenes in which items will be placed closer to the center of the parcel. If a large scene is rezzed on a parcel with a large variation in height a portion of the scene might be rezzed under the terrain at the high point and above the terrain at the low point [see pic].

For beach or water parcels where the center of the bounding box is over water, the scene height will be placed on top of the water surface.

Orientation

Scenes are rezzed in the same orientation they were created in. For parcels which are square the orientation is not critical. For parcels which are rectangular or irregular shaped special care must be taken to be sure the scene when rezzed will fit properly on the parcel. It is recommended when you create a scene it will fit independent of the orientation of the parcel. This can be accomplished by creating square scenes and placing them on parcels where the largest edge of the scene is no longer than the shortest edge of the parcel [see pic]. Another possibility is to create a duplicate scene where one scene is in the NorthSouth orientation and the duplicate is in the WestEast orientation.

Group Owned Objects

Scene objects can optionally be group deeded after they are placed; this is useful for signs which disappear after a parcel is sold, media players, or objects you wish to be transferred to the parcel buyer. Any object that is marked as “Share with group” will be deeded during parcel setup.

Permissions

When the Landmachine worker robot places a scene, it places a copy of the scene so the same scene can be used over and over. For this to work properly ALL objects in a scene must have at minimum next owner copy permissions. Any objects which are to be deeded to the group must additionally have next owner transfer permissions. Scenes are placed at the size and scale they are created in therefore next owner modify permissions is not necessary.

Scripted Objects
Any primitives placed can contain scripts, please note however that any object placed will be owned by the Landmachine worker robot so special care must be taken to ensure trackers or notification scripts do not use the llGetOwner() LSL function but have a hard-coded key to communicate with the intended actual owner.

Object Types
Scenes can contain only objects that are primitives or linden plants, clothing, body parts, skin, etc if intended to be deployed for sale or as gifts must be placed inside the inventory of a prim.

Scene items can be coalesced (i.e.: multiple unlinked primitives or plant items selected at once and taken into inventory as a coalesced set), Individual primitives or linked sets of primitives. There are two important things to note here: 1) each item will be placed at the center of the parcel, so for example if the Scene contained 3 primitive type objects that were loose (i.e.: not linked as a single object) all 3 objects would be placed at the exact same location which might not be desirable. 2) Primitives can be taken with primitives into a coalesced set OR plants can be taken with plants as a coalesced set to assure proper placement of items in the final scene.

It is recommended that:
  1. Linden plants are taken as a single coalesced object
  2. Decorative primitives be taken as a second coalesced object
  3. Primitives which are to be group deeded be taken as a third coalesced object

Please see the Step by step guide to creating a scene for a further assistance in creating scenes.

Scene Storage

All items in a scene are stored in an individual unique folder in the Landmachine worker robots inventory and are only not shared among users of the system.

Saving a new scene
once you have created a new scene that you want to be able to assign to a Landgroup, you simply store the scene in a folder in your inventory, set all proper permissions, and then transfer the folder to the Landmachine worker robot.

Replacing an existing scene

If you make changes to a scene and wish to replace a scene already saved and transferred to the Landmachine worker robot you simply use the existing scene name and when you transfer the scene to the worker robot it will overwrite the existing scene.

Removing an existing scene

To have a scene removed that is no longer in use, simply contact support with the request and it will be removed from the worker robot and also from your list of scenes in the Landgroup configuration screens.
